For those with mild to moderate memory loss, we offer transitional Assisted Living. For those with more advanced memory loss, we have a dedicated Memory Care section of our community, called Life’s Neighborhood. Our around-the-clock, compassionate team provides personalized care to meet our residents wherever they are, and our rich programming includes recreational and social activities to keep residents active, engaged, and making new friends. Frequently Asked Questions

Having worked with thousands of families and residents over the last two decades, these are some of the most common questions asked:
Memory Care is a specific type of senior living designed for residents experiencing memory loss due to Alzheimer's or another form of dementia. Memory Care offers a secure and supportive environment with personalized care plans to meet the unique needs of residents as they progress through the stages of memory loss.
Memory Care differs from other senior care options because it focuses on providing specialized care and support for residents with memory loss. Memory Care includes caring trained staff equipped to handle the nuances and challenges of memory loss. They can skillfully engage, support, calm, and redirect residents. Memory Care promotes cognitive stimulation, emotional wellbeing, and safety for residents.
No. For seniors with light to moderate dementia, transitional Assisted Living might be a better fit. Learn more here.
Our team communicates with families when, for safety or dignity of the resident, the smaller and more intimate setting of secured Memory Care is a better fit. However, we have witnessed over the years that those moving into Assisted Living at an earlier stage of memory loss can often delay or prevent a move to a secured setting as they benefit from expert programming that can improve memory or delay the progression of memory loss.
Our communities employ various safety measures for the wellbeing of our residents. These measures include monitoring systems, 24-hour onsite staff, emergency-call pendants, motion sensors, and protocols for preventing wandering (it's common for those with dementia to exit-seek). And our trained staff are skilled in managing challenging behaviors often associated with memory loss.
Typically, Medicare does not cover the cost of long-term Memory Care. But it may cover certain medical services and treatments related to Memory Care, such as doctor’s visits, diagnostic tests, and medications. We recommend checking with Medicare and your insurance provider to understand the specific coverage and benefits related to Memory Care. At Aegis Living, all of our communities are private pay only. Our team is here to provide guidance and support, helping you navigate alternative options such as long-term care insurance or veterans’ benefits. We are dedicated to helping you find the necessary resources and information to make an informed decision about the financial aspects of Memory Care.
All our communities are pet friendly, allowing residents to bring their small beloved pets for companionship. Speak with the general manager of the community to clarify any limitations.

My dad has Alzheimer's and last December we brought him to Aegis. I thought he was going to kick and scream. I believed that his issues with memory and not knowing where he was would stop him from being a resident. I have learned so much from the staff about how gently they deal with him. Simple redirects to help him feel calm and safe. I for the first time in years can stay at work, go out to dinner, and sleep through the night. I feel so thankful for the entire staff.

My Mom has been at Aegis for many years. I can’t thank them enough for the love, support, and care provided each and every day. It has brought peace and calmness to our lives and simply knowing Mom is well cared for is something that can never be taken for granted.

We were impressed with the facilities for security and large outdoor space, and equally large indoor space available to the residents. We also were impressed with the longevity of staff serving the residents and their expressed enjoyment with working for Aegis and serving the residents. We were also impressed with the plan and execution of daily activities available to the residents.

Aegis Living Moraga is a lifesaver. My husband has been at Aegis Living Moraga for one year. He was eased into the routine of living in Memory Care by perfectly coordinated planning and I, relinquishing him, was prepared by sensitive staff who guided me through the first moments of his adjustment. I have felt confident since that day about the care he has received…I cannot express adequately how grateful I was to hear my husband's frequent comments about how wonderful everybody was and he referred to all of the people he was connected to: administration, caregivers, the residents he met who'd become his social world—he was frankly happy. It was evident he was at ease and comfortable. My husband has had dementia for nearly ten years and his days were becoming vacant, so to observe how pleased he was to participate and to finally have some meaning restored to each day meant everything to me. Everyone who offers kindness and care to my beloved husband fills my heart with gratitude. I know each one is constantly adapting to the changes that any Alzheimer's sufferer will go through. The work they do is an enormous job and I have only seen them be unrushed and gentle…The staff acts as a caring family, allowing actual family to have the confidence that any suggestions, questions, or concerns of theirs will always be heard and addressed. Everyone at Aegis Moraga works with compassion and dedication.

The Cost of Care

We know that providing the best possible care for your loved one is what’s most important, so it’s essential to know what costs to expect. At Aegis Living, our pricing is broken down into two main costs—rent and care—and a one-time community fee.

A male resident kissing a female resident’s cheek

Apartment Rental

Monthly rent covers the cost of your loved one’s apartment and includes services such as housekeeping, meals, transportation, and utilities.

A doctor checking a resident’s heartbeat

Care
Services

When it comes to care, we charge based on care points—charging individually for the care services that the resident will receive and paying only for what they need. This structure allows families to remove or add services as their loved ones’ needs change.

A bedroom with a cozy bed, a large window, armchairs, and small coffee tables

Community
Fee

Your one-time community fee contributes to maintaining our beautiful communities for your enjoyment, as well as to preparing for your arrival.

If you’d like to get a quote for pricing, please contact the community you’re interested in. Rent varies based on the apartment you’re interested in and care costs are unique to each prospective resident.
