Aegis Living - Senior Care

The different levels of care provided by Aegis

As your parents get older, it can become increasingly challenging to care for them on your own. For instance, In some circumstances, it’s no longer safe for your mother to live independently, and in other cases, the growing demands of her medical needs – whether it be medication, treatment or care – can be overwhelming.

Whatever the case is, you may be wondering if it’s time to turn to an assisted living community and learn about what types of care these facilities provide. Aegis Living communities offer a variety of levels of care for seniors, from those who are mostly independent but require some assistance to those who are suffering from dementia and are in need of memory care.

Aegis Living works with each family and resident to provide the best opportunities for care while creating a true at-home feeling within the community, which makes the transition easier and less stressful for both you and your loved one:

Assisted living

When your parent is no longer able to live independently, the next step may be assisted living. If this is the case, the Aegis Living staff will provide your mother with exceptional care and assistance. She’ll be given a senior housing apartment all her own that features space to sleep, relax and entertain guests as well as a private kitchen or kitchenette, so the feeling of home will still be present. If she prefers to live with a friend or another person, there are also two-bedroom apartment options available.

At the assisted living care level, your mother won’t have to worry about completing chores like cooking or cleaning if these have become too challenging for her. The staff is available 24/7, and three nutritious meals are provided throughout the day as well as snacks. Your mother can also opt to cook for herself in the comfort of her own apartment if she prefers.

When family or other guests come to visit, there are private dining rooms available for residents. Seniors at this level of care are also offered a wide variety of activities throughout the day and week to keep them busy and socially engaged. Your mother can enjoy everything from watching movies to playing games, doing crafts, gardening, taking part in lady’s nights, group outings and so much more.

As part of assisted living, your mother won’t have to worry about if and when she’s taken her prescriptions, as licensed nurses will provide medical care and oversee medications, while the housekeeping staff ensure that laundry and cleaning are taken care of. Transportation is also provided, so your mother can easily go grocery shopping, visit the doctor or run errands.

Transitional care

Some seniors will begin to experience lapses in memory and have trouble recalling names or details of an event. These instances may be early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Cognitive illnesses progress slowly, and that’s why Aegis Living offers transitional care for residents who are in the early-to-mid stages of memory loss.

As memory issues progress, living semi-independently can become problematic, but the Aegis Living staff works with each resident to ensure smooth transitions. Individuals are given their own specialized care floor in the community where they are provided with additional support and help in dealing with the illness. Transitional care residents still have access to all of the common areas, where they can meet with friends, family and loved ones, but their apartments are located among their peers and staff members. This way, their added needs can be attended to quickly and efficiently, and they can spend time with fellow residents.

Memory care

As dementia symptoms and Alzheimer’s progresses, residents will need to transition to full memory care. Aegis Living specializes in memory care and has developed expansive treatment options that caters to the unique needs of each individual.

Life’s Neighborhood – a program developed by Aegis Living –  is the core of the memory care communities, and it was developed to increase pleasure and quality of life for those experiencing cognitive illnesses. Memory loss can spark stress and anxiety in individuals, and the goal of Life’s Neighborhood is to create a space that’s familiar and comforting, allowing for strong bonds to form between staff members and residents and encourage socialization.

Residents at the memory care level have unique needs that are symptomatic of their disease, but that doesn’t mean they can’t continue to celebrate life. Because individuals with memory loss are dependent on others, the staff members are available 24/7 to help with everything from the tasks of daily living to health concerns to medical emergencies. The caregivers and nurses are trained and licensed, so they understand how to handle cognitive declines with sensitivity. A proper diet continues to be important, especially as individuals age, so part of memory care requires that individuals stay fully hydrated and receive the necessary nutrients each day.

It’s easy for seniors with memory loss to slip into social isolation, but this can have negative mental and physical effects, so it’s important to encourage these individuals to engage in social activities continues to be of the utmost importance. Memory and strategy games are excellent for memory care patients, as is getting some form of exercise. Residents can spend time in the secured outside gardens that feature circular walking paths where they can enjoy some physical activity while taking in the beauty of the flowers growing there or watch the birds at the onsite feeders.

Memory loss not only affects the individual themselves but their family members as well. Aegis Living also offers support, education and resources for the family in case they have questions, concerns or thoughts on their parent’s illness, the care that’s being provided or what to expect as their mother’s cognitive function declines. This helps to ensure that you understand the care your parent is receiving so that you feel comfortable with the process.

Memory Care

Memory Care is specialized, secure support for people living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias who benefit from a calm, structured environment and round‑the‑clock expertise. At Aegis Living, that care happens in Life’s Neighborhood—an intimate, thoughtfully designed setting where 24/7 dementia‑trained caregivers and a nursing team on site seven days a week deliver personalized help with daily living, medication management, and mobility (including Hoyer lifts and two‑person transfers), while gently redirecting agitation and confusion. Days are purpose‑filled with science‑based cognitive programming, certified music therapy, and social activities; chef‑prepared meals are easy to enjoy and dining spaces and cues are designed for memory support. Discreet safety features like secured entrances, emergency pendants with fall detection, and optional motion sensors, prevent wandering and bring peace of mind, and visiting physicians and wellness professionals reduce trips off‑site. Families receive education and ongoing support. If your loved one is unsafe alone, missing medications, wandering, needs frequent cueing or hands‑on help with bathing or dressing, or thrives with a predictable routine, Memory Care offers the right level of care. For milder needs, our transitional Assisted Living can be a first step; for advancing symptoms, secured Memory Care provides the specialized, heartfelt support to help them feel calm, connected, and at home.

Assisted Living

Assisted Living is ideal when you—or a loved one—want to stay independent but need daily help to live safely and well. It combines a private apartment with 24/7 caregivers who provide personalized support with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, medications, mobility, including two‑person transfers and Hoyer lifts when needed). A nursing team on site seven days a week builds a tailored care plan, with visiting physicians and onsite physical, occupational, and speech therapy available for added peace of mind. Meanwhile, we handle the details like chef‑prepared, dietitian‑designed all‑day dining, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, and concierge services, so residents can focus on community and purpose in beautifully designed spaces with fitness classes, clubs, and daily activities. Care scales up or down as needs change (so you only pay for the support you use). If you don’t require the constant medical care of a nursing home but want more help than independent living provides, Assisted Living delivers the care, comfort, and community to help you thrive.
Light Assisted Living is for adults who are largely independent and want the ease of maintenance‑free living with a trusted safety net close by. You’ll keep your own routine in a private apartment while we handle the hassle like chef‑prepared, dietitian‑designed all‑day dining, weekly housekeeping and laundry, concierge help, and scheduled transportation to appointments and outings. Our on‑site team is available 24/7 for occasional support—think medication reminders, a steady arm for bathing or dressing, or short‑term help after an illness—without the intensity of higher‑level care. Stay active with a full calendar of fitness, arts, clubs, and curated excursions; stay well with visiting physicians and optional physical, occupational, and speech therapy through our EmpowerMe Wellness partnership. Emergency call systems, elevators, and discreet mobility support add peace of mind. It’s the right fit if you don’t need Memory Care or frequent hands‑on assistance, but want community, convenience, and the assurance that more support can scale up if your needs change. Couples with different care needs can remain together with personalized plans.
