October 23rd Update
New Developments from our Coronavirus Advisory Council
Since the beginning of the pandemic, we’ve been seeking guidance from experts in the medical and science community to help us consistently evolve our care with best practices. Dr. Eric Sievers, one of our Coronavirus Advisory Council members, is leading an early-stage clinical trial for an oral, DNA-based COVID-19 vaccine with Symvivo, a biotech based in Vancouver, BC. His team’s goal is to create a vaccine that targets the immune system of seniors in much the same way that the successful Shingles vaccine works. You can read more of his insights on our Council update webpage. Our Coronavirus Advisory Council meets regularly and we promise to continue to share how their insights are helping guide our best practices.
Where We Stand Today
It’s our commitment to keep our residents and staff safe and healthy. We are doing everything we can to diligently follow strict safety protocols and go above and beyond the CDC guidelines in our communities. This week, we are happy to report that we have zero cases amid our 2,200 residents. We are managing six cases amid our 2,500 staff members in communities including Bellevue, Newcastle, Madison, Napa, Moraga and Dana Point. We always do consistent and rigorous contact tracing and testing to control the spread and protect our residents and staff. For more resources and information from the CDC visit our Expert & Family Resources page.
Kindness from our Marin Library Neighbors in Corte Madera
Partnerships in each and every neighborhood we serve are so important to both our residents and our team members. This week we have a perfect example of how simple, yet powerful the connections can be. At our Corte Madera community, we’ve partnered with the Marin Library who have gifted us with several creative activity kits for our memory care residents. Local teen volunteers assembled packages with books, classic music albums, crafts, trivia and flash cards that are specialized for all levels of dementia. We’re so grateful for the kindness of our neighbors and the positive impact these kits are having on our residents.
