Our Commitment: A Partnership with Fred Hutch

As part of our commitment to join with some of the smartest minds working to make a significant impact in this pandemic, we are excited to share updates on Aegis Living’s partnership with Fred Hutch, where our goal is to help fund and execute a virus tracking research study, broadly in assisted living communities. This past month, we met with Dr. Josh Schiffer, Fred Hutch Infectious Diseases Lead, and a member of Aegis Living’s Coronavirus Advisory Council, to discuss raising money from across the industry. Together, we will launch a study in the Fall. Aegis Living looks forward to contributing and participating to catalyze the study and discover ways to support senior safety and wellness overall during this pandemic and beyond. We expect to have results in the Spring and use them to help inform and guide our decisions as we work to lead the industry in raising heightened safety standards.

Where We Stand Today

We remain in a state of heightened safety protocols as we work every day to keep COVID-19 out of our communities. We’ve seen national and statewide spikes in positive cases with the broader spread of the virus. This week, we are managing 46 positive cases. Amid our 2,200 residents across the west coast, we have 24 positive cases, and 22 among our 2,500 staff members. The communities managing the virus this week include Corte Madera, Shadowridge, Madison, Rodgers Park, Aptos, and Newcastle. We continue conducting contact tracing testing as part of our rapid response culture. We will continue to communicate regularly with updates via email and phone to our residents, their families and the staff effected, to remain transparent in our status and report the results of universal testing in our communities.  

Keeping the Fun Going

Even in the midst of these uncertain times, we are dedicated to enriching the lives of our residents and are continuously exploring safe and fun ways to spark joy in our communities. This week in Granada Hills, our staff threw residents a “Disney Day” complete with Disney themed foods and a Zoom sing-along. Each department created their own Disney “float”, which they showed off to residents who were safely seated in their doorways to watch as the parade came down the hallway. We understand how isolating this time can be, especially for those who are higher risk. Our Life Enrichment Teams and Care Managers are working around the clock to find ways to continually bring a smile to our residents faces.
