April 10th Update
We continue to have little news to report on new coronavirus cases at Aegis Living. Aegis Living Lynnwood had one staff member test positive for coronavirus. This staff member has not been in the community for over a week and no other residents or staff members have tested positive or shown any symptoms at this time. We have implemented additional precautions to ensure we continue to protect our residents and staff and are happy to report the Lynnwood staff member is recovering well at home. Aegis Living Marymoor continues to recover and has had no new cases to report for the past two weeks.
While we have been focused on our residents and staff, our concern for seniors during this challenging time extends beyond our own communities. There are many struggling that may be homeless, homebound, or simply too afraid to leave their house with the coronavirus threat. To help Seattle-area seniors, we have created Seattle Seniors Strong, a new charitable initiative founded by Aegis Living and the Clark Family Foundation.
Seattle Seniors Strong is a $100,000 community-match campaign to support homeless and homebound seniors in the Seattle region. Funds are being dedicated to two area organizations that provide critical support for those 65 years and older: Sound Generations and Pike Market Senior Center (PMSC). Sound Generations supports the aging population in King County with the Meals on Wheels program and Hyde Shuttle with a fleet of 38 vans providing door-to-door service. The Pike Market Senior Center is open daily providing a variety of services to area seniors at no cost, including securing housing, on-site activities, and serving over 50,000 free meals per year. Through May 31, 2020, all donations from businesses and individuals will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000 for each organization.
In addition, Seattle-based Bartell Drugs, is supporting this campaign by purchasing goods for both organizations, as well as promoting the initiative in-store to their customers to collect donations. You can learn more or get involved by visiting SeattleSeniorsStrong.com.
