“I can’t imagine a more remarkable privilege nor responsibility than to honor and care for people at this stage of their lives.”
Kris Engskov, President
Kris Engskov is President of Aegis Living, one of the nation’s leading innovators in providing assisted living, memory care, and wellness services to seniors. In his role as President, Kris leads all aspects of operations, marketing/sales, clinical care, finance and development.
Having spent much of his career working in consumer-focused, mission-driven organizations, Kris excitedly jumped into healthcare in 2019, believing that caring for seniors remains one the country’s most critical challenges. He was convinced the industry had a giant opportunity to innovate and better serve seniors by providing more personalized experiences AND better health outcomes by embracing digital transformation, a focus on becoming ‘the’ employer of choice, transparent approaches, and the integration and delivery of on-site, 24/7 health care within senior living communities.
As the US prepares to care for the largest group of seniors in its history, at Aegis, Kris is helping lead a number of platform building initiatives intended to position the company for growth, including the digitization of Aegis’ care and health services; the development of an entirely new senior wellness platform; and the creation of a new, progressive, and industry-leading employer pay and benefits approach. He recently helped lead the purchase of over 60% of Aegis’ outstanding leases, supporting the company’s strategic shift to becoming an owner-operator.
Prior to joining Aegis, Kris spent over 16 years at Starbucks Coffee Company (2002 – 2018) where he held multiple senior leadership roles including as President of the company’s flagship U.S. retail division and earlier as President of Starbucks Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Joining Starbucks in the early 2000’s, he was fortunate to participate in the growth and evolution of the company from under 1,000 stores when he started to over 30,000 stores when he left in 2018. While at Starbucks, Kris developed deep experience and expertise leading the development and execution of a number of new product and digital innovations globally, establishing significant new growth partnerships both in the US and Europe and scaling several successful new store concepts and formats. While in Europe, he led a rapid turnaround of the EMEA division that enabled the company to quickly and profitably expand to multiple new greenfield markets after developing the company’s first franchise model. Previously Kris worked for Madrona Venture Group, LLC, a Seattle based venture-capital fund. Early in his career, he was in public service. From 1993 to 2000, Kris held a number of positions in the Clinton White House, including Assistant Press Secretary and Personal Aide to the President. He received his B.A. in Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
