Activities Director: Lisa Elijah
Started at Aegis: 2005
Q: What activity have you done that made your residents laugh the most?
A: We most recently had a staff/resident Talent Show on April Fool’s Day. Two of our residents read old scripts from George Burns and Gracie Allen. The laughter filled the room. We plan to do a talent show every year.
Q: What is your one favorite activity to do with your residents and why?
A: The last several month we began “Show & Tell-Senior Style”. The residents come together and bring something they are proud of from their lives eg: A woman proudly brought her framed College Diploma from Bucknell University, one gentleman showed off his clock and watch collection, others have brought old family portraits, paintings they have done, crocheted blankets, a ring given to them in high school…the list goes on of personal items. Meaningfull items from their past. The session is wonderful with residents showing and sharing of their lives and getting to know each other better.
Q: If you DREAM BIG (beyond money, time limits and physical limitations) where would you take your residents for just one day of activities?
A: I would love to take them on a Hot Air Balloon ride..this actually may happen.
Q: What is your favorite Aegis memory that happened during one of your activities?
A: I savored watching a 90 year old woman enjoy rafting down the lower Skagit River in December bundled up for the cold and enjoying the sights of bald eagles in the trees along the river. Along with 6 other residents all having similar experiences, she was so happy with the fresh air, sun on her face and floating on the water. That is what makes my job so wonderful is to experience and witness these moments.
Q: If you could have a superpower what would it be? …And how would it help your job at Aegis?
A: Take away pain that the residents feel with their aging..maybe allow all of them to have the power to fly for one day. I don’t know..but it’s fun to daydream.
Q: What gets you out of bed and excited to come to work everyday?
A: The residents are like family, pure and simple love.
