Aegis Lodge is the first community in the area to offer a special program for early-to-mild stages of dementia called the Friendship Club. It allows our residents to continue to live in the assisted living area of our community, while participating in a program to help those struggling with memory issues with the support of their peers.
This intermediate program offers smaller group activities that are less challenging, yet still stimulate and maintain brain activity. We provide an environment of close interaction and constant supervision from a staff member. This club encourages participation and socialization to avoid isolation. Residents in this club benefit from the extensive memory care training that all of our staff members complete and which is why Aegis Living is a leader in the senior care industry.
The goal of the program is to enable these residents to cope more successfully with their challenges and to maintain their assisted living lifestyle for as long as possible. The program can potentially slow the memory decline through participation in physical and mental activities.
Here are a few examples of the activities that residents participate in:
- Reminiscing and coffee chat.
- Live piano performances with reminiscing about the history of music.
- Old classic movie discussion.
- Life stories and celebration of resident’s life.
- Jokes and humor.
- “Move to the music” exercises.
- Appropriately themed or specific trivia games to re-create memories.
- Scenic drives.
- Special holiday projects.
All of these activities will allow your loved one to have close monitoring and engagement, and to preserve their dignity while interacting with an exclusive group of friends in a private setting.
