Tears of Recognition and Love
Before coming to Aegis of Kent, Roy had been caring for his wife, Rosalind, for four years as she progressed with Alzheimer’s. During those trying years, they lost one another.
On a recent visit, Roy shared with the staff that Rosalind had never raised her voice in 40 years. She was a happy person and a children’s librarian. He adored her, but she no longer recognized him. We could see his sadness as she walked past without acknowledging him. He whispered in her ear, but she still walked away. Rosalind moved around the room, as Roy continued to talk to the staff. Suddenly, Rosalind looked at him with tearful eyes. She held out her arms, went to him and they hugged each other tightly.
