Memory Care - Aegis of Kent
Our Life’s Neighborhood Program
The core of our memory care communities is Life’s Neighborhood™ – a nationally recognized program developed by Aegis Living. The program was designed to improve the quality of life with amenities that increase enjoyment for people living with memory loss.
The goal of Life’s Neighborhood™ is to decrease stress and anxiety by re-creating the familiarity and comfort of the neighborhood of yesteryear. The program helps build a strong bond between staff and residents, whether chatting about past times while tidying up the apartment, looking at old photos, or strolling together in the courtyard. The Life’s Neighborhood™ physical space is reminiscent of a large family home in the 1940s and 1950s, and is designed to encourage an environment of socializing in a nostalgic setting. Our memory care amenities include specially trained staff, security, innovative programs, and much more.
- Life Stations. Life’s Neighborhood™, includes “Life Stations,” which allow our residents to reminisce of days long passed. These stations remind our residents of prior careers, hobbies, raising a family, or their wedding day. Our caring staff members have been trained to accept and join our residents in their current reality to create a safe and comfortable environment, where residents can live their lives in a way that is familiar to them.
- Snoezelen Room. Our unique memory care program also features the Snoezelen (pronounced “snoozlin”) philosophy of care, in which sensory stimulation is used as a method of relaxation and redirection. This type of care allows us to reduce the use of medication to soothe our residents. Our community has a Life’s Haven room where light, shapes, textures, aromas, music and colors are used to gently stimulate the senses.
