New Memories Made
At Aegis at Callahan House, we provide a secure environment with gently structured activities to establish a daily routine and encourage socialization, both of which are so important for the health and well-being of those suffering from dementia. Our various mental, physical and social routines encourage camaraderie and confidence.
We are careful to cater our activities to the interests and abilities of our residents, and offer a variety of social activities and challenges to enhance their alertness and focus. Whether they take part in exercise, high tea, arts and crafts, storytelling, baking or gardening, there are plenty of activities to keep them interested.
Our nationally recognized memory care program, Life’s Neighborhood™, includes “Life Stations” that allow our residents to reminisce of days long passed. These stations remind our residents of prior careers, hobbies, raising a family, or their wedding day. Our caring staff members have been trained to accept and join our residents in their current reality to create a safe and comfortable environment, where our residents can live their lives in a way that is familiar to them.
Our unique memory care program also features the Snoezelen (pronounced “snoozlin”) philosophy of care, in which sensory stimulation is used as a method of relaxation and redirection. This type of care allows us to reduce the use of medication to soothe our residents. Our community has a Life’s Haven room where light, shapes, textures, aromas, music and colors are used to gently stimulate the senses.
